Trestles: Welcome

A trestle is a support structure used to hold a horizontal surface, such as a tabletop. This trestle was designed to take up a small amount of space under the table, while still being able to support a great amount of weight. The trestle sits on three legs in order to create a sturdier structure on uneven ground.

Three Legged Trestles
The trestle is constructed beginning with a single ‘X’ piece that is joined together with a half-lap joint and then attached to another beam at a 15-degree angle. A third beam is attached to the other side to form an A-frame. The ‘X’ shape is then repeated underneath the first piece in order to give strength to the frame.

The X shapes form a delicate structure underneath a large tabletop surface. The trestles take up a small area underneath the table and appear light and fragile, but can actually hold a large amount of weight.
The trestles form new shapes when viewed from the front, side, and top views.
