Scene 2.3.jpg

The goal of this project was to design a set proposal for a play, keeping in mind two different acts of the play. Each set expresses an array of moods that are communicated in each of these acts. This design was inspired by the film La La Land and brings a dreamy world of romance and music to life.

A Theatrical Look at an LA Story

The first act uses song and dance to bring sunshine and happiness to rush hour in LA. The set design uses bright colors, dark woods, and metal to put a whimsical spin on the opening scene.

The play as a whole is an extravagant and distorted look at life in Los Angeles. The set pairs with the storyline to create a playful place that intrigues the audience and draws them into an idealized world.

The second act depicts a romantic journey into the clouds, where the two protagonists fall in love. This scene is surreal and brings the viewer into a world of dreams. The actors walk up along a floating staircase and dance among the stars.
