The goal of this studio was to create an interface between two elements. The process started by creating an interface between a human and another object, such as a toothbrush. When thinking about creating a new way to interact with the world around you, the design shifted to form an interface between a person and the sun. Out of this research, came the idea to build an interactive, outdoor pavilion.

Light Up the Night
The metal structure was created by looping circles through one another. Each layer of structure was woven together. This diagram illustrates how the metal structure could interface with a person and their body.

The materials used are a sheer fabric that is gathered in specific spots to create areas of translucency and opaque areas. The fabric itself becomes another interface with which a person can interact. It ignites curiosity and frames a person’s vision through the lens of the fabric. The final design allows for performances during the day, as well as an interactive light show at night.
The curvature of the pavilion provides a space for people to occupy both the front and the back of the design. This gives people two different experiences; one provides an open view to the sky, while the back of the design acts as a translucent barrier between the occupant and the sky.

The project creates a relaxing environment that can be used as a stage structure on one side, and create a shelter for people on the other side.
